The best online casino in Canada is one that your own province licenses: an AGCO-registered site in Ontario, an AGLC-registered site or Play Alberta in Alberta, and the provincial crown site everywhere else. On that basis the highest-scoring casino sites in our October 2026 ranking are BetMGM Casino, OLG.ca, FanDuel, DraftKings and Stardust Casino. This hub explains how Canadian online casinos are licensed, how we rank them and which guide fits the feature you care about.
Best online casino sites in Canada: the ranking
The table below lists the top online casinos by our score, which runs from 0 to 100. Only provincially licensed sites can reach the 80+ band we call recommended. A high score says the site is licensed where it operates, pays in Canadian dollars, publishes its terms and gives you real limit and self-exclusion tools. It does not say you will win.

How online casinos are licensed in each province
Under section 207 of the Criminal Code, only a province, or a body acting for it, may conduct and manage casino games online. Provinces have used that power in two ways. Ontario and Alberta let private operators in under a provincial agency; the rest run their own crown site and license no one else.
In Ontario, operators register with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and sign an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario, which opened the market on 4 April 2022. The iGaming Ontario directory listed 49 operators and 84 gaming websites as of 1 September 2026. You must be 19+ and physically in Ontario to play. Our Ontario page covers the rules in detail.
Alberta passed the iGaming Alberta Act in 2025. The Alberta iGaming Corporation conducts and manages the market, the AGLC registers operators, and private sites went live on 13 July 2026, with an 18+ age limit. Play Alberta, the crown site, continues next to them. See gambling in Alberta for the registrant list and what changed.
Elsewhere, PlayNow (BCLC) serves British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, Loto-Quebec runs Espacejeux, and Atlantic Lottery serves New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. Those crown sites are the only provincially licensed online casinos in their provinces.
What we check before a casino makes the list
Every score follows the same five weighted parts, set out on our how we rate page:
- Licence and legal standing (30 points): crown or provincially registered sites get full marks; offshore licences get between 0 and 14 depending on the regulator.
- Payments and payouts (20): Interac, Canadian-dollar accounts and published withdrawal terms.
- Bonus fairness (15): wagering, caps and how clearly the terms are written.
- Product (15): game range, live dealer tables, apps.
- Player protection (20): deposit limits, self-exclusion, a complaints route and named ownership.
Our information comes from regulator registries, operator terms and help pages, and app store listings. Where an operator’s site blocked our research, we leave the field empty rather than guess.
Good online casinos versus offshore gambling sites
Many gambling sites that advertise to Canadians hold no provincial licence. They are typically licensed in Kahnawake, Malta, Curacao or Anjouan. That makes them offshore, or grey market, from your province’s point of view: provincial rules do not apply to them, a provincial regulator will not take your complaint, and many block players located in Ontario.
We still review offshore brands because people search for them, and we say plainly what each one is licensed by. They score lower by design, and none can be recommended. Our Kahnawake guide explains the most common licence you will see in their footers.

Paying in and cashing out at Canadian casino sites
Interac e-Transfer is the default at most regulated Canadian casino sites. Your bank sets your e-Transfer limit; the casino sets its own minimum and maximum. Regulated Ontario sites must show bets and payouts in Canadian currency, so you avoid currency conversion. Card deposits work at many sites, but RBC, CIBC and TD treat gambling charges on credit cards as cash advances, with interest from day one.
Playing within limits
Online casino play is for adults: 19+ (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec). Every licensed site lets you set deposit limits and self-exclude. Set a budget before you play, and treat any loss as the cost of entertainment. In Ontario, ConnexOntario answers 24 hours a day at 1-866-531-2600. Our responsible gambling page lists support lines for every province.
Questions readers ask
- Which online casino is the best in Canada?
It depends on your province. In Ontario our highest scores go to BetMGM Casino and OLG.ca; in Alberta to BetMGM and other AGLC-registered sites; in British Columbia, Manitoba and Saskatchewan to PlayNow; in Quebec to Espacejeux; in the Atlantic provinces to Atlantic Lottery.
- Are online casinos legal in Canada?
Online casino games are legal when a province conducts and manages them, either through its own crown site or, in Ontario and Alberta, through registered private operators. Sites licensed only abroad or in Kahnawake are not licensed by any province.
- How many casino sites does Ontario regulate?
The iGaming Ontario directory listed 49 operators running 84 gaming websites as of 1 September 2026. Not all of them offer casino games; some are sportsbook or poker only.
- Can I use an Ontario casino account outside Ontario?
Not for betting. You must be physically located in Ontario to place a bet, wherever the account was opened. The same location rule applies in the Alberta market and at the crown sites in other provinces.
- Do Canadian casinos pay in Canadian dollars?
Regulated Ontario sites must display bets and payouts in Canadian currency, and the crown sites work in CAD. Many offshore sites price in USD or EUR, which adds conversion costs.
