Canadian Caper is an independent consumer report on gambling in Canada. We explain what is legal in each province, review crown sites and provincially licensed operators, give honest notes on offshore brands that target Canadians, and publish guides to lottery, sports betting, casino games and payments. We are not an operator, a regulator or a government body, and we do not take bets or hold player funds.
What we cover
- Provinces and territories: who may offer gambling, the crown sites, minimum ages and local help lines. Start with our province guides.
- Operator reports: a score out of 100 and a verdict for each brand, with its licence status stated plainly.
- Lottery: official results for Lotto Max, Lotto 6/49 and Daily Grand as a convenience, with game rules from the lottery corporations.
- Sports betting: how odds work, the NHL and CFL, and single-event betting, legal since 27 August 2021.
- Casino games, slots and payments: house edge, RTP, Interac and other methods.
Our principles
We put the legal position first. Every report says who licenses the brand and whether any province does. Crown sites and provincially licensed operators are presented as the regulated option wherever they exist. Offshore brands are described with what we could confirm, and we do not call them legal in Canada or publish ways around provincial geo-blocks.
We write in plain language and avoid hype. Numbers we cannot source stay out of the text, and we say when something is unconfirmed. Lottery results and sports fixtures come from official feeds; we never invent draws, odds or picks.
How we are funded
Some links to operators are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission when a reader opens an account. That income pays for research and editing. It does not buy a score: the method on how we rate applies to every brand. Details are in our affiliate disclosure.
Who we are
A small team of researchers and editors works on the site, with reports signed by our senior reviewer under the disclosed pen name Elliot Marsh. More on roles and corrections is on the editorial team page. Online gambling is for adults only, 19+ (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec).
Questions readers ask
- Do you run any gambling games yourselves?
No. We only publish information and reviews; there are no games, bets or player accounts on the site.
- Are you connected to a provincial lottery corporation?
No. We report on crown sites such as OLG, PlayNow and Loto-Quebec, but we are not affiliated with any of them or with any regulator.
- How do you make money?
Through affiliate links to some operators. Commission never changes a score or verdict.
