Nearly every regulated Canadian site is also a Visa casino and a Mastercard casino: in our records BetMGM, OLG, FanDuel, DraftKings, Stardust, Royal Vegas, PlayOJO and Jackpot City all list both cards. The catch is the card type. Canadian banks treat gambling charges on a credit card as cash advances, with interest from the first day, while a debit card spends money you already have.

Online gambling is 19+ (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec). Paying for bets on credit is a warning sign worth taking seriously; see our responsible gambling page.

Credit cards: gambling counts as a cash advance

The cardholder agreements of the big banks are explicit. RBC treats gaming transactions, including betting, casino chips and lottery tickets, as cash-like transactions charged as cash advances, and says interest is always charged from the day the cash advance is made. CIBC’s agreement in force from 1 August 2026 lists online gaming and betting among cash-like transactions. TD’s agreements treat legal online wagers and casino chips as cash advances. Expect a cash-advance fee, a higher rate and no grace period.

We found no Canadian ban on credit cards for gambling as of October 2026. The AGCO’s internet gaming standards do not prohibit them; they require sites to show players the method and source of funds and to run bets and payouts in Canadian currency.

Visa casino Canada: debit and prepaid cards

Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard draw on your chequing account, so the purchase is not a credit card cash advance. Card issuers can still decline gaming transactions; payment processors name issuer declines as a common card problem. If a deposit is refused, ask your bank before trying again.

Searches for casinos that accept prepaid Visa cards or Vanilla prepaid Mastercard for online gambling in Canada are common. Some cashiers accept prepaid cards for deposits, but we could not confirm a list, and a prepaid card often cannot receive a payout. Have a bank account or Interac ready for withdrawals.

OLG is Ontario’s crown site; the others are registered with the AGCO and iGaming Ontario, most also in Alberta. Readers asking about an MGM casino credit card deposit: BetMGM lists Visa and Mastercard, and the bank rules above decide how the charge is billed. Many offshore casinos take cards too, but they are not licensed by any province.

Withdrawals to a card

Card payouts depend on the issuer and the operator. bet365’s Ontario help pages say Apple Pay withdrawals, which run on a card, go back to that card where possible and otherwise by bank transfer; check each operator’s terms for its own card rule. A credit card refund of winnings does not reverse the cash-advance interest already charged. If speed matters, compare published times on our fast withdrawal page or use Interac e-Transfer instead.

Blocking gambling on your own card

We could not confirm which Canadian banks offer a switch that blocks gambling merchants. Call your bank and ask whether it can block gambling transactions on your card. Deposit limits and self-exclusion inside the casino account work on every regulated site.

Questions readers ask

Can I use a credit card at Canadian online casinos?

Many sites accept Visa and Mastercard credit cards, and no Canadian ban was in place as of October 2026. Banks such as RBC, CIBC and TD bill these charges as cash advances with interest from day one.

Does Visa Debit avoid the cash-advance charge?

No. Visa Debit and Debit Mastercard draw on your bank account. Your issuer can still decline a gaming transaction.

Do casinos accept prepaid Visa or Vanilla cards?

Some cashiers do for deposits, but we could not confirm a list. Prepaid cards often cannot receive winnings, so keep a bank method ready.

Will a casino send winnings to my Visa card?

Sometimes. It depends on the issuer and the operator; where a card cannot receive a payout, operators use a bank transfer instead.
