Western Max rules in brief

  • Price: $2 per play, three seven-number selections from 1 to 50.
  • Up to five plays per ticket.
  • Draws on Tuesday and Friday; sales close at 10:30 p.m. ET on draw day, with provincial cut-offs that vary.
  • Top prize: win or share $2 million for 7 of 7.
  • Extra $1 million prizes: exact match only. The number of these prizes changes from draw to draw; WCLC’s page did not explain what sets the number, so we do not describe a trigger.

Western Max draws on the same days as Lotto Max and uses a similar seven-number format at a lower price and with smaller prizes.

WCLC’s EXTRA add-on

WCLC sells EXTRA with Western Max for $1 more per play. Its top prize is $250,000, with a $100,000 second prize, and you can add up to five per ticket. EXTRA is WCLC’s add-on; it is not OLG’s Encore.

Lotto Spot, self-checkers and WCLC prize offices

WCLC lists three ways to check: the Lotto Spot app, which scans the “My Tickets” barcode, self-checkers at retail, or a retailer scan. Printed copies of app tickets are not accepted. Retailers validate and pay up to $100; from $100.01 to $1,000 they may decline, and $1,001 or more is paid through a prize office by appointment or by mail to WCLC head office. We did not find a stated claim deadline for Western Max, so claim promptly. Lottery prizes are not taxed for recreational players; our winnings tax guide explains why.

Gambling is 19+ (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec); WCLC applies 18+ to its lottery products. See our responsible gambling page before you set a budget for tickets.
