How to play Lotto Max after the April 2026 changes
Lotto Max changed in April 2026. According to news coverage of the change, the price rose from $5 to $6, each play gained a fourth line, the number pool grew from 1-50 to 1-52, and the jackpot cap rose from $80 million to $90 million. New ticket sales started on 10 April 2026, for draws from 14 April 2026.
- One play costs $6 and gives you four sets of seven numbers from 1 to 52. In Western Canada, the WCLC game page says you pick one set and the terminal picks the other three, or you take a Quick Pick for all four.
- You can buy up to five plays per ticket and enter 1 to 25 advance draws.
- Draws are on Tuesday and Friday. OLG says the draw takes place after 10:30 p.m. ET. Sales close at 10:30 p.m. ET on draw day, and provincial cut-offs vary.
- Seven numbers and one bonus number are drawn for the main draw. Matches count on a single line only.
Tickets are sold by the regional corporation where you buy: OLG in Ontario, the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) in the Prairies and the territories, Loto-Quebec in Quebec, and the provincial corporations in British Columbia and Atlantic Canada. Our Canadian lottery results hub covers the other draws, including Lotto 6/49.
Lotto Max jackpot, MAXMILLIONS and MAXPLUS
The Lotto Max jackpot starts at $10 million and can grow to a cap of $90 million. We do not publish an estimate for the next draw, because the figure is set by the lottery corporations and moves with sales. Check it with OLG, WCLC, Loto-Quebec or your provincial lottery site before you buy.
Two extra prize draws sit on top of the main jackpot:
- MAXPLUS: $100,000 prizes drawn every draw. The number of prizes equals the jackpot in millions, so 10 prizes at a $10 million jackpot and up to 90 at $90 million. Only an exact 7 of 7 match on one line wins, and there are no secondary prizes.
- MAXMILLIONS: $1,000,000 prizes, again for an exact 7 of 7 match on one line. OLG says they apply when the main jackpot equals or exceeds $50 million. WCLC adds that MAXMILLIONS prizes keep growing after the jackpot reaches the cap, and that every selection is checked against all MAXMILLIONS sets.
The odds of matching one MAXPLUS or MAXMILLIONS set exactly are 1 in 33,446,140 per $6 play, the same as the jackpot.
Lotto Max odds per $6 play
The table follows the official WCLC odds table for the current format. Pool shares are percentages of the Pools Fund, so the cash value of those prizes changes from draw to draw.
| Match | Prize | Odds |
|---|---|---|
| 7 of 7 | Jackpot (at least $10 million) | 1 in 33,446,140 |
| 6 of 7 + Bonus | 18.50% of Pools Fund | 1 in 4,778,020 |
| 6 of 7 | 18.85% of Pools Fund | 1 in 108,591 |
| 5 of 7 + Bonus | 12.25% of Pools Fund | 1 in 36,197 |
| 5 of 7 | 27.50% of Pools Fund | 1 in 1,684 |
| 4 of 7 + Bonus | 22.90% of Pools Fund | 1 in 1,010 |
| 4 of 7 | $20 | 1 in 72.2 |
| 3 of 7 + Bonus | $20 | 1 in 72.2 |
| 3 of 7 | Free Play (four Quick Pick selections) | 1 in 7.0 |
The chance of winning any prize is about 1 in 5.8 per $6 play, and most of those wins are the Free Play for 3 of 7. Put plainly, a ticket buys a very small chance at a large prize, and on average it returns less than it costs. Treat the $6 as the price of entertainment, not as an investment.
Regional add-ons sold with Lotto Max
The add-on offered depends on where you buy. In Ontario, OLG sells ENCORE at $1 per play: a seven-digit number with 22 ways to win and a top prize of $1,000,000 for all seven digits, at odds of 1 in 10,000,000. In the Prairies and the territories, WCLC sells EXTRA instead, at $1 per play with a $250,000 top prize or a $100,000 second prize, up to five per ticket and valid for the same draw dates. Loto-Quebec also sells an add-on called EXTRA. We could not confirm the add-on names and prize tables in British Columbia and Atlantic Canada, so check them on your provincial lottery site.
An EXTRA number from WCLC is not an Encore number. If the results table shows an EXTRA number, it applies only to tickets bought in the WCLC region.
Where to verify a Lotto Max ticket and get paid
The numbers on this page are a convenience. The check that counts is the lottery corporation’s own:
- Ontario: OLG’s Check Winning Numbers page, or a retailer and its in-store ticket checker.
- Prairies and territories: WCLC’s Lotto Spot app (the “My Tickets” barcode), a self-checker at a retailer, or a retailer scan. WCLC says printed copies of app tickets are not accepted.
- Quebec, British Columbia and Atlantic Canada: the results page or app of your provincial lottery corporation, or a retailer scan.
Payout routes differ by region. OLG says prizes under $1,000 can be paid in store, depending on the store, and a store must pay up to $50; from $1,000 you submit a claim online and OLG may mail a cheque or schedule an interview. WCLC pays up to $100 at retail, retailers may decline prizes from $100.01 to $1,000, and $1,001 or more goes through a prize office by appointment or by mail to head office.
Claim periods are set by each lottery corporation. The official pages we checked did not state a deadline for Lotto Max, so read the game conditions for your region and claim without delay.
Lotto Max prizes and income tax
The Canada Revenue Agency says you do not report lottery winnings of any amount unless the prize is really income from employment, business or property. A Lotto Max prize is therefore not taxed when you win it, but interest or investment income earned on the money afterwards is taxable. Our guide to lottery winnings tax in Canada has the details; it is general information, not tax advice.
Lotto Max and your budget
Gambling in Canada is 19+ (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec) for most products. For lottery tickets the age is set by each lottery corporation, and OLG states 18+ for lottery in Ontario. Set a fixed amount for tickets, do not add plays because the jackpot is large, and see our responsible gambling page for limits and where to get help.
Questions readers ask
- What days and time is the Lotto Max draw?
Lotto Max is drawn every Tuesday and Friday. OLG says the draw takes place after 10:30 p.m. ET. Ticket sales close at 10:30 p.m. ET on draw day, and some provinces have earlier cut-offs.
- How many numbers do I need to win a Lotto Max prize?
Matching 3 of 7 on one line gives a Free Play, at odds of 1 in 7.0 per $6 play. Three numbers plus the bonus, or four numbers, pay $20. Bigger matches share percentages of the Pools Fund.
- Why does Lotto Max cost $6 now?
The game changed in April 2026: the price went from $5 to $6, each play gained a fourth line, the pool went to 1-52 and the jackpot cap rose to $90 million. The new format applies to draws from 14 April 2026.
- Where can I find Lotto Max results for an older draw?
Our table shows the last ten draws. For older draws use the official results pages of OLG, WCLC or Loto-Quebec, which keep archives by month or by date.
- How many $100,000 MAXPLUS prizes are drawn?
It depends on the jackpot. The number of MAXPLUS prizes equals the jackpot in millions, so 10 prizes at a $10 million jackpot and up to 90 at the $90 million cap. Only an exact 7 of 7 match on one line wins.
