Ontario’s crown lottery corporation, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG), sells sports bets under the PROLINE name in two forms: PROLINE, sold on paper at lottery retailers to players 18 and older, and PROLINE+, OLG’s online sportsbook, which needs an OLG account, players aged 19 or older and a location inside Ontario. Both are run by the province, so they are a regulated option rather than an offshore one.
This PROLINE review covers what each version offers, how PROLINE+ compares with the private Ontario sportsbooks, how to use it responsibly and what we could not confirm. For the province’s wider rules, see our Ontario gambling guide.
PROLINE and PROLINE+: two products under one name
The name causes confusion because it covers two different ways to bet.
- PROLINE (in store). A sports lottery sold through OLG lottery retailers. According to OLG’s PROLINE fact sheet, you must be 18 or older to play it at a retailer. You choose your selections on a slip or at the terminal and receive a printed ticket.
- PROLINE+ (online). OLG’s digital sportsbook on olg.ca. OLG says you must be 19 or older to register and play online, and, like every regulated Ontario site, you must be physically in Ontario to place a bet.
Searches for “proline plus” almost always mean the online version. The in-store and online products share the brand and the owner, but the account, payment and limit rules differ, so it helps to know which one you are reading about.
One more source of confusion: Atlantic Lottery also sells a sports product called Pro-Line in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland and Labrador. That is a separate product of a separate corporation. Our Atlantic Lottery review covers it.
Who runs PROLINE and how it is regulated
PROLINE belongs to Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG). OLG is Ontario’s crown lottery and gaming corporation, and its online site, OLG.ca, is registered by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). iGaming Ontario notes that every fully authorized online operator in the province has an AGCO registration and, except OLG.ca, an operating agreement with iGaming Ontario. OLG.ca is the exception because OLG itself conducts and manages its games for the province under section 207 of the Criminal Code.
In practice this means PROLINE+ sits in the same regulated framework as the private Ontario sportsbooks that launched on 4 April 2022, with AGCO standards on advertising, identity checks and player protection. Our guide to iGaming Ontario explains the structure.
Single-event and live betting on PROLINE+
Until 2021, provincial sports lotteries in Canada sold multi-event tickets. Bill C-218, the Safe and Regulated Sports Betting Act, came into force on 27 August 2021 and allowed provinces to offer bets on a single game. OLG launched PROLINE+ with single-event betting on that date, and it lists live betting among the product’s features.
We have not checked the full league list ourselves. The exact list of markets, live betting options and odds is set by OLG and changes all the time, so we do not quote it. Our single-event betting guide explains how one-game bets, parlays and live odds work.
Odds, limits and what the price includes
Every sportsbook builds a margin into its odds; it is how the operator earns money regardless of the result. Crown sportsbooks are no exception. Before you bet, compare the price for the same market on more than one regulated site, and remember that a parlay multiplies the margin as well as the potential payout.
Online sportsbooks, PROLINE+ included, normally show the odds and potential return on the bet slip before you confirm. In store, the printed ticket shows your selections and the stake. Keep paper tickets safe until you have checked them and claimed any prize.
A sensible habit for any sportsbook, crown or private: decide on a fixed weekly amount before the season starts, keep stakes small relative to it and never raise them to win back a loss. Betting on your own team adds an emotional pull that makes this harder, so some bettors avoid those games altogether. No source of picks or tips changes the margin built into the price, and no bet on PROLINE+ is a sure thing.
PROLINE+ account, deposits and withdrawals
PROLINE+ runs through an OLG.ca account; OLG.ca also carries online lottery and OLG’s online casino. Registration involves an identity check and confirmation that you are 19 or older. Payment methods and payout times are set by OLG and may change; the values we hold may be blank until confirmed from an official page:
| Item | Current value |
|---|---|
| Payment methods | not stated |
| Interac | not stated |
| Minimum deposit | not stated |
| Withdrawal time | not stated |
In-store PROLINE prizes are claimed like other lottery prizes: small amounts at a retailer, larger amounts through OLG’s claim process. Check the current thresholds with OLG, as we do not quote them here.
PROLINE promotions and the OLG app
OLG runs promotions for its online products from time to time. The current offer, if OLG publishes one for PROLINE+: not stated. Check the promotions page on olg.ca or your account for current offers, and ignore codes from unofficial sources. Read the terms for any free bet: they usually set a minimum odds level, an expiry date, and pay winnings without the free bet stake.
The PROLINE page on olg.ca links to the OLG app download. The app store status we hold: Android not stated, iOS not stated. Install only the app published by OLG, from the official store.
PROLINE+ compared with private Ontario sportsbooks
Since April 2022, Ontario bettors can choose between PROLINE+ and dozens of private sportsbooks registered with the AGCO. The private brands usually offer wider prop markets, more promotions and features such as bet builders. PROLINE+ has a different set of strengths: it is owned by the province, and OLG.ca puts lottery, casino and sports in one place.
| # | Operator | Score | Regulator | Legal in | Interac | In your province |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 78 Acceptable | OLG | ON | Not stated | - | |
| 2 | 88 Recommended | Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation | ON | Not stated | - | |
| 3 | 78 Acceptable | AGCO / iGaming Ontario | ON, AB | Not stated | - | |
| 4 | 86 Recommended | AGCO / iGaming Ontario | ON, AB | Yes | - | |
| 5 | 86 Recommended | AGCO / iGaming Ontario | ON, AB | Yes | - |
All of these are regulated in Ontario. What we would avoid is the offshore sportsbooks that still advertise to Ontarians without an AGCO registration: if something goes wrong there, Ontario’s rules and complaint routes do not apply.
BetGuard self-exclusion and dispute steps
PROLINE+ operates under the AGCO’s Registrar’s Standards for Internet Gaming, which include player protection requirements; check the responsible gambling settings in your OLG account for the limits on offer. For a broader break, iGaming Ontario points players to centralized self-exclusion through BetGuard, which covers all regulated online gambling in Ontario, or to each operator’s own program. If you have a dispute, iGaming Ontario’s guidance is to start with the operator’s customer service; OLG’s support team handles PROLINE and PROLINE+ questions.
Gambling is for adults only: 19+ in most provinces (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec). In Ontario, ConnexOntario offers free help 24 hours a day at 1-866-531-2600. Our responsible gambling page lists more support.
Unverified PROLINE+ details
OLG’s PROLINE page confirms the product, the age rules and the Ontario requirement. We have not confirmed the current list of payment methods, payout times, minimum deposit, app ratings or current promotions from an official page, and we have not placed bets or opened an account. Where OLG publishes those values, the fields above fill in.
