High RTP slots are slot games whose published return to player is around 96% or more, meaning a built-in cost of about 4% or less of everything you wager over the long run. Among the popular titles we checked, Big Bass Bonanza and Big Bass Splash list 96.71% at their top setting, Legacy of Dead 96.58% and Gates of Olympus 96.50%. The catch: studios release several RTP versions of the same game, and the casino decides which one you get.

Best paying slot games by published RTP

Figures below are the highest setting published by the studio or a reputable game sheet, checked in October 2026. Lower versions exist for most of them.

Big Bass Splash Pragmatic Play 96.71% 95.67%, 94.6% High

Gates of Olympus Pragmatic Play 96.50% 95.51%, 94.5% Very high

Book of Dead Play’n GO 96.21% 94.25% down to 84.18% Very high
Starburst NetEnt 96.09% 95.05% down to 90.05% Low

For comparison, Aviator, a crash game rather than a slot, lists 97%, and Pirots 4 is listed at 94%. Our Big Bass Bonanza page shows how one game’s three versions compare.

Why the same slot has several RTPs

Studios build each game with a menu of RTP settings, and the casino chooses one when it adds the game to its lobby. A game you know as 96.21% can therefore run at 94.25% or lower on another site, with identical graphics and features. The difference sounds small, but over $1,000 of bets it is the gap between an expected cost of about $38 and one of about $58 (our illustration, using 96.21% and 94.25%). Book of Dead RTP searches are common for exactly this reason: the version matters more than the title.

How to check the RTP at your casino

  1. Open the game and find the info, help or paytable screen (often an “i” or menu icon).
  2. Look for “RTP”, “theoretical return” or “expected payback”. Some games list separate figures for the base game, bonus buy and ante bet.
  3. Compare it with the top figure in the table above. If it is lower, the casino runs a lower version.

If a game does not show its RTP anywhere, treat that as a reason to choose another game.

Ante bets, bonus buys and the RTP you actually get

Many recent slots add optional modes that change the maths. Sweet Bonanza and Gates of Olympus offer an Ante Bet, which raises your stake per spin to make free spins trigger more often. Gates of Olympus 1000 sells its free spins round for 100x the stake, and several Big Bass games offer a similar buy feature. Studio game sheets note that buy features are not available in every market, and where they are, the info screen may list a separate RTP for each mode. A higher stake per spin with the same or a slightly different RTP means you spend faster, so the expected cost of a session grows even if the percentage barely moves. If you are choosing games for their return, compare the RTP of the mode you will actually use, not the headline figure.

Highest RTP casino options in Canada

A “best RTP online casino” in Canada is one that runs the higher versions of the games you like, and that you can play on legally. Regulated sites are the only ones where a provincial regulator stands behind the game rules: OLG.ca and the iGaming Ontario brands in Ontario, Play Alberta and AGLC-registered sites in Alberta, and the crown sites elsewhere. We rank these regulated casinos by our score; check RTP game by game inside each lobby. See also our page on best payout casinos.

High RTP is not the same as low risk

RTP is a long-run average across millions of spins. In one evening, volatility matters far more. Gates of Olympus has a high RTP and very high volatility, so a session can lose steadily before a large win, or never see one. Starburst has a slightly lower top RTP but low volatility, with frequent small wins. Neither is “better”; they suit different budgets. Our slot odds guide explains how to size bets for each.

RTP on table games for comparison

Slots are not the highest-returning casino games. Blackjack with basic strategy has a house edge of about 0.28% to 0.43%, baccarat’s Banker bet 1.06% (an RTP of about 98.94%) and single-zero roulette 2.70%, according to the Wizard of Odds. Our casino games guide compares them side by side.

Playing high RTP slots sensibly

A 96.7% game still costs money on average, and a high RTP is no reason to play longer. Set a deposit limit and a session time before you start. Real-money slots in Canada are for adults: 19+ (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec). Free provincial helplines are listed on our responsible gambling page.
