PlayNow App

Part of our PlayNow report: 82 Recommended Provincial site

You can reach PlayNow from a phone, but our research could not confirm which store apps BCLC currently publishes for it: the official site blocked our requests and store results were unclear. BCLC does run a separate BC Lotto app, which B.C.’s Game Break self-exclusion programme covers alongside PlayNow itself. This page sticks to what you can check yourself: whether a listing is genuine, how installation works and where you may play. Store status on file: Android not stated, iOS not stated.

Spotting a copycat PlayNow listing

Before you install anything with “PlayNow” in the name, look at who published it. A genuine BCLC listing names the British Columbia Lottery Corporation or BCLC as developer; an unknown company is not PlayNow, whatever its icon looks like. The safest route into a store is a link on PlayNow’s own website or help pages, not a search result or an ad.

If the publisher does not match, do not enter your login details. A fake app can take your password and the identity documents you upload.

PlayNow without an app: the phone browser

The simplest way to sidestep the store question is to open the official site in your phone’s browser and log in there. We could not inspect the mobile layout ourselves, but no download is involved. You can add a shortcut to your home screen from the browser menu so the site opens like an app.

The location rule still applies in the browser. In B.C. you must be physically in the province to play, so expect the site to check where you are before you wager.

Installing a PlayNow app: the steps

Where a store listing is available in your province, installation follows the usual pattern:

  1. Open the App Store or Google Play on your phone and search for PlayNow.
  2. Check the developer name as described above, then tap install.
  3. Open the app and log in with your existing PlayNow account, or register if you are new.
  4. Allow location access when asked. The app needs it to confirm you are inside B.C., Manitoba or Saskatchewan.
  5. Look through the account settings for limit tools and set them before your first session.

PlayNow poker app and sports on mobile

People searching for a PlayNow poker app usually want the crown poker room, which has run since 2011, away from a desktop. We could not confirm whether a phone client exists today, so check the poker section of the official site for supported devices. PlayNow Sports, the crown sportsbook with single-event betting, is reachable from the main mobile site.

Province limits that follow you on mobile

A phone makes it easy to forget where you are. PlayNow accounts only work for wagering inside the province of that version: B.C. accounts in B.C., Manitoba accounts in Manitoba, Saskatchewan accounts in Saskatchewan. The age rule is 19+ in B.C. and Saskatchewan and 18+ in Manitoba, against the general Canadian line of 19+ (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec). If you cross into Alberta, the crown option there is Play Alberta.

We do not give tips for getting around location checks. The rule exists because each province’s authority over gambling stops at its border.

Staying in control on a phone

Mobile play is quick, which is why limits matter more there. Use whatever limit tools your PlayNow account offers, and turn off push notifications for promotions if they tempt you to play. Our responsible gambling guide lists provincial help lines and self-exclusion steps. Questions readers ask

Does BCLC publish a PlayNow app in the stores?

BCLC runs a BC Lotto app, and PlayNow can be opened in a phone browser. We could not confirm the current store listings, so check that any app you find is published by the British Columbia Lottery Corporation and linked from the official site.

Will PlayNow work on my phone in Alberta or Ontario?

No. PlayNow has versions for B.C., Manitoba and Saskatchewan only, and each works for wagering inside its own province.

Why does the PlayNow app ask for my location?

In B.C. you must be physically in the province to play, so the operator has to confirm where you are before you bet.

Is PlayNow poker available on mobile?

We could not confirm the current poker client for phones. The poker section of the official site lists the supported devices.
